Senator Josh Hawley Goes Nuclear!

It’s like I can breathe again! Finally, FINALLY, somebody in Clowngress introduced the blindingly-obvious idea that Big Tech is a monopoly that needs to be broken up.

Hawley introduces bill to trust-bust Big Tech

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) on Monday introduced new legislation he says will “bust up” Big Tech companies, including Amazon and Google, by breaking up tech companies and strictly regulating what types of industries they can be involved with.

The “Bust Up Big Tech Act” would make it illegal for companies that offer search engines, marketplaces, and exchanges from competing with third-party vendors by selling, advertising, or promoting their own competing goods and services. Amazon, for example, would be prohibited from owning Amazon Marketplace and also selling Amazon products on the marketplace in competition with third-party sellers.

The bill would also ban tech companies from providing internet infrastructure services to other companies or hosting their websites online if they are already engaged in another type of business. Using Amazon as an example again, Hawley’s bill would make it illegal for Amazon to both own its marketplace and offer Amazon Web Services, which provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and other tech infrastructure to third parties.

Or to use another analogy, Costco would no longer be allowed to sell Costco-brand products in its stores, if I read the bill correctly. This is huge. Anything that decentralizes BigCorp is a win because it creates alternatives. There are good reasons that Socialists are violently opposed to people having choices.

The Federal Trade Commission would be empowered to enforce these new regulations. Additionally, state attorneys general and private citizens would be permitted to sue Big Tech companies that violate the law.

“Woke Big Tech companies like Google and Amazon have been coddled by Washington politicians for years,” Hawley said in a statement. “This treatment has allowed them to amass colossal amounts of power that they use to censor political opinions they don’t agree with and shut out competitors who offer consumers an alternative to the status quo.”

No shit, Sherlock, but what a pleasure it is to hear a sitting U.S. Senator actually say so. Some few Republicans are waking up to the idea that if sitting-President Trump can lose to cheaters then they aren’t going to get reelected, either. Not while the dead outnumber the living.

Hawley also introduced a bill along with Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) to end Major League Baseball’s antitrust exemption in response to the League’s decision to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta in protest of Georgia’s new election laws.

Are Republicucks actually learning to fight back? I will be watching with interest.

  1. It won.t go anywhere. Republicans are playing defense on three issues rn: 1- hr 1; 2- guns; 3- court packing.

All Dems have to do is nuke the filibuster. Ram all 3 through. Rs won.t reclaim senate absent a miracle. We will be lucky to win a simple majority in the house.

  2. I expect that no Republican will ever win an election again, at any level of government in any State, even for dogcatcher, except for controlled opposition. That is the direct, logical and immediate implication of the Dominion steal.

The public-private Deep State assault on Georgia tightening its voting laws is proof of their intention. But it’ll be nice if Hawley & friends can turn some lights off on their way out.

  3. The public-private Deep State assault on Georgia tightening its voting laws is proof of their intention.

It takes a particularly virulent and dangerous strain of stupidity, as well as extreme willful ignorance, to not see this.

  4. Are Republicucks actually learning to fight back?

Republicans have a long history of fighting back when they’re safely in the minority and defeat is assured.

It’s when they have actual power, controlling both Houses of Congress and the Presidency, that they lose their nerve and do nothing.

Trump and the GOP had two years to fund the wall, expel illegals, abolish Obamacare, tighten election laws, and defang Big Tech. Instead, we got another tax bill and goodies for Israel.

  5. ‘Are Republicucks actually learning to fight back?’

    Not. A. Chance.

The GOPe will let a couple mavericks like Hawley or DeSantis hoot ‘n holler, because that placates, and gives false hope, to the millions of Heritage Americans who desperately are searching for ANY glimpse of sanity or righteousness in the United Sisterhood of Amerika.

The decision to shape the New World (America, Canada) into a totalitarian techno-scientific cryptocracy was made long before the founding of those nations. Organizations like the Royal Society and its predecessor the Invisible College — peopled by high-ranking, high-society masons — determined long ago the ‘progress’ of the New World nations. And here we all are!

P.S. is that Schwarzenegger in the Enough Talk graphic? That’d be ironic, since he ran for Governor as a conservative, and once installed in office, submitted to the Prog will of his wife Maria, and of her family, the Shrivers (who, btw, are major players in the U.S. cryptocracy). I recall back around 2002 telling Righties that Ah-nulled was just a weenie-boy fake. They raged at me and assured me that their muscled hero would kick ass and take names in California. lol

  6. “P.S. is that Schwarzenegger in the Enough Talk graphic?”

Yep, It’s Ahnold about to give his “crush your enemies” speech in Conan. Although the phrase “enough talk” was from the not-watched sequel.

  7. P.S. is that Schwarzenegger in the Enough Talk graphic? That.d be ironic, since he ran for Governor as a conservative, and once installed in office, submitted to the Prog will of his wife Maria, …

I give Arnold a bit more credit. He ran on a platform for budget reform, and to weaken government employee unions power and benefits, among other things. I forget his specific policies, but there were several.

After he won, he pushed to get them through the state legislature. And lost.

But Arnold didn’t give up. He continued pushing, and got his policies put on the ballot for the next election.

And voters rejected those policies. The same policies that got Arnold elected, the voters rejected when it was put on the ballot.

After that, Arnold gave up. I don’t entirely blame him. A better man would have continued the fight. OTOH, why fight when your supporters among the electorate have abandoned you?
